Chard Together – Chard Goes Global ‘A Celebration of Cultural Diversity’

The Community Council for Somerset (Somerset Diverse Communities team), in partnership with Chard Community Hub and local volunteers, will run this project to create a celebration of diverse communities in Chard. The aims are to encourage inclusion and cross-community understanding.

The project will establish an annual day of celebration focused on food, music, dance, arts and crafts and family friendly activities representing diverse communities in Chard. It will include information stalls hosted initially by small and medium size organisations that support the integration of all members of the community. A ‘Recipe Book’ will be produced in English, Portuguese and Polish initially. Digital versions will be translated into other languages as engagement with other communities develops. It will highlight recipes from different communities including an explanation of ingredients, cooking methodology and an explanation of local values and traditions behind the dishes or times the dishes are cooked. Chard Together will take place at the Guildhall on Saturday 11 March 2023 with a theme of ‘Belonging – Who are the People of Chard, Past, Present and Future’.

Two further events will be hosted in 2023. These will be in conjunction with Chard Museum and Chard Library. The events are scheduled for Saturday July 08th and Saturday September 09th. The September event will be part of National Heritage Open Days (HODs).

Chard Together 2024 will take place on 17 February 2024.
